Gourd 'Luffa cylindrica' is a climbing annual related to the cucumber that is commonly grown for Luffa sponges or the young vegetables can be eaten.
Luffa sponges are popular because they provide a sustainable solution to commercial sponges and dish scourers. Luffa's can be added to compost bin when finished with.
Although easy and fairly easy to grow, they need lots of watering, warm soil temperatures and a climbing trellis.
